Climbing Volcan Pacaya

Well, after reading this post, you might start to see why it has been so long since I have blogged. I can't, for the life of me, decide which pictures to use. ha ha. These pictures are from January - wow, I really am so far behind on my blog. I am finished with my grades now for second trimester and no grading to do tonight, so we'll see what kind of damage I can make tonight. ha ha. I climbed the Volcano Pacaya back in January after I came back from Christmas break. I was really excited about it and had no idea how hard it would be. ha ha. I am not really much of a hiker but it is an active volcano and you can't just hike up an active volcano any old day, so I went for it. I went with two families with kids, so I figured if the kids could do it so could I. Well, I did it, but I thought I was going to die a few times.

Here is a beautiful view of the Volcan Agua on our way up.

We got one horse for the kids to share. Here we are starting out, I was still up for taking pictures at this point. :)

It was absolutely breathtaking at several points. The steam in the bottom of the picture is coming from an electricity plant that is powered by the steam from the lava.

Time to change positions on the horse. I never got a turn. :( ha ha.

Looking down, so pretty

We had to run down this hill. It was much easier than trying to walk it.

We were eventually trying to get to the top. You can faintly see a line of people (dots) walking up the side of the volcano. We went to the right side, not the very top peak you see.

The volcanic rock

Lexi and Sam showing off some of the volcanic rock. Very light and sharp.

Sam found a big rock!

Hiking up, not fun for me!!!

We are about to stop for lunch. I need to get to that part back behind me.

Lexi and I taking a break.

Lunch break!

Sam, on top of the world!

We are going up where that line of people are going. This was the worst part for me, but we had to go up it to see the flowing lava, which was really cool.

Our first glimpse of the lava.

A better view of it.

I made it!!!! It was soooo hot up there.

Still there, still beathing, still alive.

We even had our guide roast marshmallows for us!

Yes, it was that hot. They were totally charred. Pretty cool.

Look how red his face is as well!

Alex (our guide) even got in on the fun!

Look how red Maya's face is!

Trekking back down, even less fun. :)

Coming down

The volcanic rock was really cool.

We made it through the hard part!!!!

Here is our group after we were pretty much done, just had to hike down the rest of the volcano, which wasn't bad at all!!! What a great day!

The pictures really don't do it justice. It was so cool. Check out the videos in the next post of the lava flowing. It was so cool. Again, don't do it justice!!
