Dividing by Seven.....not as easy as it sounds!

So the Guatemalan currency is Quetzales. The US dollar is worth about 7.3 Quetzales. It is really hard to divide everything by 7. And I feel extra pressure because whenever we are out somewhere, it never fails that someone will be trying to figure something out and they will say, "Who's the math teacher around here?" So here is a little sample of the money here in Guatemala. They have bills for 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 Quetzales. I'm not sure if there are any others. Here is a sample of some of the bills.

Here is the 1 Q bill. You will also see 1 Q coins as well. This is worth about 14 cents.

Here is the 10 Quetzales bill.....it is worth about $1.50 or so.

Now, I do realize that this isn't money, but as I mentioned before, it is kind of difficult to divide by 7 all the time to figure out how much things cost. Well, I kind of came to this conclusion in Korea that I wasn't in the United States anymore and I needed to stop comparing all the prices to things in the US. If it was something that I really wanted, I just paid for it, it didn't really matter how much it was. Well, I mentioned in a previous post that I had gone to the grocery store and it was huge. I was kind of picking up several things and not really paying attention to the price. Out of pure curiousity I took a look at my receipt when I got home. Lo and behold, you are looking at an almost $7 box of Vanilla Wafers. But boy are they tasty!!!
